8th of July
Survived the 4th of July week-end. The sounds of bones cracking accompanied by groans told me that I was too unfit and too old to be outdoors. However, with a sense of pride, I completed a 3.3-mile hike through a creek, browned rolling hills, meadows, footbridges, pines, bluejays, fellow hikers and campers. My courageous effort was rewarded with a spectacular view of the pacific coast at San Simeon State Beach – a majestic meeting of land, sea and sky.
Did not have time to visit the Hearst Castle but several stops at the quaint village of Cambria, the seaside town of Morro Bay, the Danish village of Solvang and historic Santa Barbara made up the week-end’s itinerary. The fireworks at Morro Bay were below par but still gave me a feeling of patriotic pride as an American. Hubby and nephew tried to fish to no avail. However, the rock cod fish bought fresh off the local fishing boat melted in my mouth.
The camping trip brought back memories of a simple life. We’ll do it again next year.
