The ball's rolling in 2006

My 2 nieces held a joint birthday celebration at my sister’s house where we slept over New Year’s Eve fearing the drunk drivers and the wet roads. Due to the heavy downpour, only a few of their expected guests showed up but in keeping with the famous family tradition of hearty eating, the food prepared for 50 wasn’t wasted. After a leisurely brunch the next day, we went home and forced ourselves to clean up the holiday debris. Come Monday, the continuing storm gave us a legitimate excuse to stay in bed glued to the telecast of the Rose Parade the entire morning. We planned to venture outdoors to view the floats later in the day but the rains didn’t let up. Thankfully, company arrived and the day went by quickly. Going back to work Tuesday was tough after all the festivities. Tired from a full day at work, we stayed home and prepared a healthy chicken salad to celebrate our 14th year wedding anniversary, resolute to mind our health through our 50th year. A perennial vow we also make each year is to prevent the banknotes from slipping faster than we can earn them so I arranged the store bought flowers myself to commemorate our special day. I figured most of the roses had been used to adorn the parade floats so I settled for freesias, rice flowers and mums.

So there go our first few days of the year. It’s been a slow start but we fully intend to make the best of it as in the past year. Click here to view our first photo slides of 2006.
